New Year’s Resolutions are fine, but what if you could restart your imagination and realize greater health and happiness moving forward in your life?

“We get excited for a new year – pumped up – and we start to imagine the possibilities for our life,” said Alex Kip, who produces and hosts the podcast, SoulFeed. He’s a cancer survivor, an emerging author, and regular interviewer of modern, spiritual leaders such as Deepak Chopra, Oprah, and Marianne Williamson.

Kip believes the way to see the changes you want to see in your life means not seeing a new year as the only time to think about these things. “You need to see it every morning, every day, instead of this one-shot time. Write down your goals. What do you want to evolve into?” asked Kip. “The whole concept of resolution is stupid. A bunch of little actions turn into big actions. You have to rewire the brain. You’re building new habits.”

Here’s Kip’s personal approach for a happier, healthier you in 2016:

  1. Implement a Small Action Each Day 

After you are inspired, or think about something you want to change, do something within 24-hours. Take a small step toward that change. “Your mind needs to have an experience,” advised Kip. “Imagine if you do this every day.”

  1. Carve Out Time For What Matters

Don’t have time? Not true, says Kip. “You do have time, but you don’t know where your time is going. Once you get really clear on how you spend your time, you realize certain actions are not really evolving you into the person you’re trying to become. You’ll shift, get creative, and win back time. Productivity isn’t about getting things done. It’s about doing the things you love and having a life of freedom – getting the things that matter, done.”

  1. Have A 20-minute Routine 

Reserve 20 minutes of each day to focus on personal development. What does that look like? Maybe you meditate, practice a few yoga asanas, or plan out your day to be clear on how you’re spending your time. See what matters in black and white (or in your calendar), and do your important things early in the day.  “Your brain only has so much creative power, so it’s like a battery. You want to supercharge those things that really matter, right away,” said Kip.

A 2015 study claims it takes 66 days to form a new habit, so perhaps day one is January 1st, and by March 6th you’re on a whole new path.
